Miami continues to be a hotbed for hip-hop, and you only need to look at the local scene to see that. While it's been a while since people were buzzing about local acts like they were a few years ago when XXXTentacion and Denzel Curry were rising up the ranks, that doesn't mean South Florida rappers are idling sitting by.

Plenty of acts are adding their own twist to the genre, hoping to push it forward and eventually break into the mainstream consciousness. Tampa rapper Doechii recently took home the Grammy for "Best Rap Album" and delivered a stunning performance during the award show, which shows that Florida has plenty of talent.

In that spirit, New Times highlights eight Miami rappers who are bubbling up from the underground and ready to take their place in South Florida's hip-hop pantheon.

K Charles

K Charles has solidified himself as a cornerstone of Miami's rap scene, performing at Rolling Loud regularly and pushing his creative boundaries. Born and raised in the 305, he has taken his music worldwide, touring across six countries while building his independent empire through his company, 7eighty6. In 2024, his versatility was on full display with the release of "Felt Like an Hour," an indie-pop-rock-infused banger, and "Marni Mask," an underrated gem that further showcased his range. With a rapidly growing fan base and a vision that extends beyond music, K Charles is not just an artist; he's a brand. As 2025 unfolds, he's poised for an even bigger breakout.

King Hoodie

King Hoodie is a North Miami Beach recording artist, label owner, songwriter, and actor. Drawing from his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, his music combines gritty storytelling with the essence of inner-city life. In 2024, he gained wider recognition on season two of Netflix's Rhythm & Flow. His old-school-flow-meets-new-school production has helped make him a standout in Miami's growing rap scene. Although he didn't win the competition, he's taken advantage of the national exposure he's gained and continued to drop some sick freestyles on YouTube. Here's to hoping that he continues to make waves.

Kool Rula

Kool Rula, a Miami rap artist originally from Port-au-Prince, embodies versatility, blending genres with ease and standing out in today's era of boundless musical creativity. With a laidback approach to hip-hop, he brings a unique adaptability that makes him more versatile than your average rapper. Known for taking on unique challenges — like making elevator music just for fun — he has carved a niche that sets him apart from other artists. His collaboration with Flokid, "See No Evil Hear No Evil," went viral on YouTube, amassing over a million views and solidifying his place as one of Miami's most promising newcomers. With a strong social media presence, Kool Rula has promised even more new music this year, keeping fans eager for what's next.

Krissy Celess

Krissy Celess, also known as Bomb Ass Krissy, is emerging as a powerhouse in the hip-hop scene, celebrated for her raw lyricism, unfiltered attitude, and undeniable talent. Hailing from Miami, her music reflects the vibrant energy of her hometown, blending trap beats with her own unique swagger. Krissy's passion for music ignited early, leading her to write and record her own tracks as a young artist. Drawing inspiration from hip-hop icons like Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, Krissy has crafted an unapologetic and empowering sound. Her style fuses classic hip-hop influences with modern rap energy, delivering anthems characterized by bold lyrics, infectious hooks, and a distinct Miami flair.

Lil Jerry

Lil Jerry is Miami to the core. The Nicaraguan-American drill rapper from Hialeah is recognized for his dynamic blend of aggressive street rap and melodic lyricism that captivates music lovers. Known for standout tracks like "Gamble," "PopShit," and "Cautious," he showcases a distinctive style and versatility that set him apart in the rap scene. Lil Jerry has collaborated with artists such as Chuckysouljaa and Fat Nick, solidifying his presence in the industry. Product of Miami, his Instagram offers a glimpse into the chaotic, raw energy of his world, embodying the vibrant essence of his hometown. Nothing was more chaotic than when he went viral for getting arrested mere hours before he was set to take the stage at Rolling Loud in December.

PlayThatBoiZay

After having a standout 2024 with the release of his debut album Vampires Impersonating People, which featured the likes of A$AP Rocky, JPEGMafia, and his mentor/homie Denzel Curry, it's no surprise that PlayThatBoiZay is set to have an even crazier 2025. Last year, he toured across the country as part of the Grey Day Tour with Denzel, learning to have an even better stage presence than he would present on Rolling Loud's main stage this past December. He's now dropped the deluxe edition of Vampires Impersonating People, with additional features from 03 Greedo and Ferg. On top of that, Zay has been selling out of merchandise attached to the album and its aesthetics. With lots of support from some massive talents in hip hop, it's only a matter of time before Zay becomes the 305's next MVP.

Soulja Livin Tru

Carol City rapper Soulja Livin Tru is a pioneer of the Miami Sound, blending his roots with triumphant stories of resilience. In 2016, he made a powerful debut with Free Poochie, showcasing his exceptional lyricism and deep connection with his audience. Collaborations with MMG's Young Breed, Major Nine, and Young Simmie propelled him further into the spotlight, while the 2018 release of Young Soulja Dred with Lil Dred and Young Breed highlighted his musical synergy. In 2019, Free Ralo reinforced his commitment to meaningful messages. His artistic evolution continued with Free Poochie 2 and Pu Huncho in 2020. In 2022, tracks like "You Know That" and Rentals and Arab Wrappers affirmed his standing in the rap scene, showcasing his dynamic approach and noteworthy collaborations. By 2023, Soulja Livin' Tru unveiled PuWop: The State of Miami, a project encapsulating his life experiences and the essence of Miami's spirit. Teaming up with Billy Blue, he demonstrated his deep connection to his hometown and has amassed cosigns from Denzel Curry, Rick Ross, and Twelve'len. Last year, he deepened his Miami roots by hopping on Pleasant Power's "Bandoe" alongside Denzel Curry and Meechy Darko.

Webbz

Webbz, a seasoned artist from Miramar, has been making waves in the music scene since 2007-08. He was signed to Jimmy Henchmen early in his career and spent a few years at Poe Boy, building connections and honing his craft. Webbz has collaborated with industry heavyweights like N.O.R.E., Flo Rida, Killer Mike, Gucci Mane, Smoke DZA, Cam'ron, and Gunplay. He's also shared the stage with the likes of Pusha T, Big K.R.I.T., and the Diplomats and was featured on DJ EFN's album. Webbz hit the road three years ago with Boldy James on tour, but he took a step back from music for personal reasons. Last year, he made a strong return with Medicinal 2, recently dropping the visually captivating "Insidious" video from the project. With plans to release new music consistently throughout the year, Webbz is set on staying in the game and delivering for his fans.
