In a 4-0 vote on Wednesday, the Doral City Council approved the Trump Organization’s plans to build five 20-story condo towers at the Trump National Doral resort, a sprawling 600-acre Miami area property that sits just around the corner from downtown Doral and boasts a hotel, four golf courses, tennis courts, an 18-cabana pool, and a spa.
The project, which Trump has touted as "perhaps the most exciting development in the country," is set to cost a cool $3 billion.
"This isn't a pump and dump. This isn't a, let's go in as a home builder, and build a couple condos and then sell out of a property," his son, Eric Trump, said while at city hall on Wednesday night for the public hearing. "I mean, we're a family that plans to own this property in perpetuity."
It's unclear when the towers are expected to open. After winning Doral approval of a new condo complex, Eric Trump has harsh words for county plan to replace the incinerator that caught fire there 2 yrs ago: “We will fight it. I’m not even sure we will have to…I think a lot of the support to rebuild it, frankly, has been lost.” pic.twitter.com/IgbO1qrehc

As previously reported by New Times, Doral residents and the former vice mayor expressed concerns over the project's potential impact on traffic — specifically its effect on congestion around Northwest 87th Avenue, which runs along Trump's golf resort. City officials vowed to work alongside Trump’s team to examine ways to reduce the project's impact.
At the city council meeting on Wednesday, Doral mayor Christi Fraga acknowledged that "there will be an impact on our community," but said that concessions about traffic flow and the Trumps’ collaborative attitude were enough to win her support.
"They’ve made every attempt to be considerate of the impacts and to be good neighbors," she said. "They’ve bent over backward. There will be an impact on our community, but Doral is in a development stage."
