The Miami Film Festival has unveiled its 2025 lineup, with the 42nd-annual edition of the festival shaping up to be its most ambitious to date — and that's including its milestone anniversary program in 2023.
This year's festival runs from April 3 to 13, with 198 films from more than 45 countries screening at various supporting venues around town. One such venue is the Olympia Theater, which will host the festival's opening- and closing-night films — Meet the Barbarians and On Swift Horses — after years of sparse activity. Other films, including world premieres of Chirino and Ethan Bloom, as well as the hotly anticipated Selena y Los Dinos documentary, will also screen at the storied downtown venue.
Among other highlights at this year's festival is the celebrity roster, which includes appearances from Julie Delpy, Mark Duplass, Paul Feig, Melanie Lynskey, Roger Ross Williams, and Billy Zane. Delpy will introduce a 30th-anniversary screening of Before Sunrise, while Amanda Schull will participate in a Q&A at a 25th-anniversary screening of Center Stage. Other screenings include a 50th-anniversary screening of Picnic at Hanging Rock and a 20th-anniversary outdoor screening of Pride & Prejudice at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in partnership with the Miami Book Fair.
This year's special events also include a preview night screening of Freaky Tales starring Pedro Pascal, a screening of 2002's Secretary starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader (part of the festival's Uncomfortable Brunch event), and a showing of Magic Hour at the Mayfair House Hotel & Garden with director Jacqueline Christy and star Miriam Shor in attendance.
As always, the festival's programming will spotlight only-in-Miami stories. River of Grass is described as an ode to the Everglades, the aforementioned Chirino tells the story of legendary Cuban-American musician Willy Chirino, and El Sonido de Miami (The Sound of Miami) traces the evolution of the city's signature Latin music sound. But perhaps the most intriguing Miami story in the lineup is Know Me: The Untold Miami Bath Salts Phenomenon, a narrative film that sets out to tell the true, complex story of Rudy Eugene, the man behind the infamous so-called "Miami cannibal attack" of 2012.
Intrigued? Here is the complete lineup for the 2025 Miami Film Festival.
