A$AP Rocky once rapped, "I thought I'd probably die in prison," a line that hit way too close to reality as he faced up to 24 years behind bars on felony assault charges.

But A$AP Rocky just pulled off the biggest W of his career — and it didn't happen on stage or in the studio. After a high-stakes, high-profile trial, the Harlem rap superstar walked out of a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday night a free man, beating the charges tied to a 2021 shooting incident involving former friend, A$AP Relli. As the verdict was read, Rocky jumped into the arms of Rihanna, his partner and mother of his two children, while supporters erupted into celebration.

While the trial played out in LA, the verdict sent shockwaves far beyond Hollywood, including right here in South Florida, where Miami's hip-hop community had plenty to say about the case.
On X, Miami legend Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell, the outspoken leader of 2 Live Crew and a key figure in shaping Miami's hip-hop identity, chimed in on the verdict, giving Rocky his support. Uncle Luke has spoken about Rocky being an artist who knows about the history of the hip-hop genre on the Math Hoffa podcast.
Meanwhile, Denzel Curry reposted the not-guilty verdict on his Instagram story. Curry and Rocky go way back, not just on friendly terms but on wax, too. The two collaborated on "Hoodlumz" together, which brought Rocky's signature swagger with Curry's raw, unfiltered energy.
Rolling Loud cofounders Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif also celebrated the not-guilty verdict on their Instagram stories. With his name clear, they confirmed that Rocky is set to perform at the Los Angeles festival in March.

Whether they saw it as a win for Rocky, a win for hip-hop, or just another wild chapter in rap history, one thing was clear — Miami had something to say.
